Vicenza hills consist almost exclusively of a sequence of layered limestone rock formations originated by a slow but continuous process of deposition of mud, sand, fragments of shells, plants and animals on the sea bottom, which many tens of millions of years ago extended in the area.

Depositing in layers on the sea bottom until the thickness of a few hundred meters, in time and with the drying, this material has acquired the hardness of the rock.

In the Miocene, a local folding of the crust through a succession of emergence and submergence has permanently raised Vicenza hills, exposing them to the aggression of atmospheric agents which conducted the hills to their present form.

Thus originated Pietra di Vicenza.

Its qualitative features - weight, hardness, resistance to fire and to atmospheric agents - have led to solid construction, whose beauty and majesty remains for ever.

For this reason, for hundreds of years until the beginning of 1900, Pietra di Vicenza was preferred to other materials by manufacturers.

Pietra di Vicenza has not a uniform colour and this is the visible manifestation of its geological changes, which affected its formation. Regarding manufacturing, there are the following groups of stones: soft stones, which mainly include unpolished limestone and sandstone; hard limestone and marble, which are polished stones, granite and similar. Pietra di Vicenza features make it suitable to shape every creation.The architect Andrea Palladio has been one of its most famous users and has helped to spread its knowledge and brightness worldwide.
